Summary
Unlike other art schools developed based on the apprenticeship system, Rimpa is a popular art form born from people’s ordinary everyday life. In it lies the timeless aesthetics which every Japanese people possesses. Characterized by the bold and lavish use of gold and silver colors, the Rimpa art has influenced many European artists, such as Gustav Klimt, who were amazed by the Japanese unique aesthetic sensibility as well as art techniques like Suminagashi (Japanese paper marbling). Not only should Rimpa be seen as a heritage of the past, it should also be a cultural asset that bridges the past and the future. We are a group of artists based in Kyoto, and, driven by our common Japanese aesthetic genes, we have combined Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), Kyōgen (Japanese Noh farce), video art as well as technology to come up with a four-night special event where you can have a glimpse of the future of Rimpa – where the tradition and the innovation merge.
Be sure not to miss this unprecedented night of the Rimpa!
